A Surprise Breakfast
I was able to sleep gloriously late this morning, and when I woke up, I was told in no uncertain terms that I was barred from the kitchen. Why? My daughter E. was cooking up a surprise for me, and my husband D. was not allowed to give away the secret.
I could hear lots of activity in there, culminating in the sound of the oven timer. Finally I was led, with my eyes closed, into the kitchen to enjoy what E. had made: Banana-Walnut Muffins! She had gone to my the blog, printed out the recipe, and made them by herself. All D. had done was help her get them into the oven. She even took the photo herself. All this, and it isn't even my birthday!
I guess she couldn't find the dates and didn't want to ask me where they were, so she just left them out. Well, the muffins tasted great. We hadn't had them since I posted the recipe way back in January, so I'd forgotten how good they are.
If you've got kids, get them cooking with you. Once they catch the cooking bug, you never know when they'll make breakfast for you!

I want to wake up to breakfast! Maybe I should have kids...?
The cutest part is that she took a picture of them.
That is so sweet! The photo came out really good too (better than half of mine, lol :-)
I made these muffins for my parents a while back and they loved them, even dad the omni said they didn't taste vegan!
Alright where can I find me an E. I'll pay any price- she is just too cute. Susan, I'm glad that your taken care of over there. I'm sure it's nice to get a break from the kitchen every once in a while!

(Freedom- I'm curios to know what your dad thinks "vegan" tastes like.)
Susan, I just discovered your blog, and it's great. I love to cook, and have been on the MWL for a month now, with exceptional results. I am still not using any oils, soy, nuts or flours in my diet, but when I reach my desired weight, I can't wait to try your recipes... (but I will try the Potatoe pizzas tomorrow night!) Keep it up!

Gorgeous photo! Kids are so sweet. I agree, get the kids cooking! I've heard lots of stories of the way kids catch the cooking bug and treat the parents when they get older.
That is so sweet - what an incredibly clever daughter to attempt baking (the apple must not fall far from the tree).
You are so lucky to have such a wonderful daughter. I was never that wonderful when I was a kid lol.
I really thought YOU took the photo. The whole post and cooking adventure is great. I always loved helping out in the kitchen even as young as 3. Go figure.
I love it! What an incredible compliment it must be to you that she did this - the cooking, the independence, the photography. So cool!

How sweet is THAT? And I love that she photographed her efforts. Please tell her I said, They look YUMMY!
First of all those muffins look scruptious!!!!
I just love how children emulate our passions.
The idea that she baked you muffins is heart warming but the fact that she also photographed them is the most touching!!!
Like mother like daughter!!!
Thanks for all the great comments. E. is thrilled that everyone liked her muffin photo. And you're right, Mikaela, I feel very honored that she's imitating me. I'm going to savor it while I can because in a few years, she'll probably want nothing to do with her old mom. :-/
And Hi Nathan! I wish you success with MWL and hope you like the pizzas. Welcome to the blog!
Your website it set up so that you can't back out of it with the browser back button! That is really rude. Yeah your page hits go up but I go back to a site that does this.
Sorry that has been your experience, Zanksironskillet, but my blog is not set up like that. You should be able to Back out of it just like any other Blogger blog.
