My Favorite Recipes of 2006 - Part 1
I decided to exclude old favorites like My Favorite Lasagna and Tofu Jambalaya and focus only on recipes I first tried in 2006--and I was still left with 12 recipes. After a lot of tearing of hair and gnashing of teeth, I managed to cull the list down to 10 recipes, more or less. And I was still only up to June! I knew I'd never be able to come up with a top 10 list for the whole year, so I decided not to try. After all, it's my blog--I can make my own rules. So what follows is my Top Ten Recipes from the First Half of 2006.
Mexican Pumpkin Soup
Thai Coconut Soup with Tofu and Mushrooms
Coconut Chai Breakfast Cake
Mirliton and White Bean Stew
Miang Kum Rolls
Pav Bhaji (Spicy Mixed Vegetable Sandwiches)
Spinach and Artichoke Pie
Roasted Asparagus and Portabella Mushrooms with Horseradish Sauce
Kale and Toor Dal
Asparagus Pesto Pasta Salad
Stay tuned for my top ten for the second half of 2006.
And don't forget about Vegetable Love, the round-up of Valentine's vegetable dishes coming up on Tuesday. There's still plenty of time to get your entry in, so start cooking!

you rock!
any way those who are interested could get a link for the unedited list?
Ohh- Susan's Top 10! I must admit I was suprised by some items on the list. But I was even more surprised not to see an eggplant dish on the list. I definitely know that my favorite Susan dish (by far) is the Kale and Toor Dal, which I'm happy to see made it onto your dish too. Thanks for posting your faves.

I just had to come out of lurking mode and say that everything you make looks SO GOOD! Right now I'm vegetarian with vegan aspirations, and your blog is one of my favorite places that makes me believe veganism is possible! Thank you so much, and I look forward to the top 10 (or 12, or 20?) for the second half of 2006. Thanks again!
Susan, I'm so excited about this list! I have all the ingredients to make the spinach and artichoke pie and can't wait. Do you know if it works ok for leftovers or does the phyllo get soggy? Sometimes I wish we had more people here to eat the food I make.
beeing Vegan is rather an odd idea for most French, thank you for the yummy recipes and so nice pictures.
Daye, here's a list of some of the recipes that started out on the list but were left off for various reasons. You can use the search box in the sidebar to find them.
Old Recipes:
Monterey Frittata
Cajun 15-Bean Soup
Rigatoni with Zucchini and Eggplant
Vegan Bibimbab
Vindaloo Vegetables
Rotini (or Penne) All'Arrabbiata
Recipes that were based on other people's recipes:
Thai-Style Vegetable Curry
Curried Split Pea Soup with Cauliflower
Date-Nut Slices
Fatfree and Fabulous Fudgy Brownies
Garden Vegetable and Bean Soup
African Pineapple Peanut Stew
Red Lentil and Rice Patties with Coconut-Mint Sauce
Simple Recipes:
Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Somen with Tofu and Asparagus in a Chinese Dressing
Asparagus with Roasted Garlic Sauce
Various Reasons:
Fettuccine No-Fredo with Broccoli and Sautéed Mushrooms
Farmers' Market Quinoa
Now you see why I had to limit the list! :-)
VV- The bottom crust of the Spinach Pie might get a little limp, but I believe that the top crust will stay crispy overnight. I know my daughter has had it for leftovers and didn't complain (but she might not have cared if the phyllo got soggy--this is one of her favorites, too.)
wow..yum...I could make them all! Where do I start....oh and I love the fact that you have dishes with Kale in them...I always get them from the coop and didn't know what to do with them.
You make such amazingly beautiful food, and even though I look at your blog almost every day, I never truly realized it until now. Can't wait for the second half of the list.
Susan
I am so happy to see the artichoke and spinach pie on your list--I thought it was great too!

That's like having to choose your favorite children!
Thanks a lot for your Top 10 and the nice things you say about my blog. As I've got flu, I'm in bed more of the time, so I haven't noticed you did it.
I know how difficult it is to select only 10 recipes, especially when we post nearly everyday like you do.
All your recipes look yummy, especially the Muang Kum Rolls, Roasted Asparagus ans Portobella Mushrooms and the Mexican Pumpkin Soup.
I've made a crumble for your St-Valentine event, but haven't posted it yet (as I spend my time in bed...). I write the recipe now and send you a message to inform you. See you.
Susan,
I stumbled on this site a few weeks ago and love it! The pictures are gorgeous and the recipes exciting. As a rookie veg with a meat/potato/veg/salad mind set, I'm wondering if you could toss in some "serve with" suggestions to round out the meal. Or, maybe they're already here somewhere and I haven't run into them yet! Thanks!
Wow Susan, I am a first time visitor to your blog and am jsut drooling over your pictures. Oh my god how could I miss you for so long. Have blogrolled you so I don't miss any of such mouth watering recipes from you
Thanx a bunch
Seema
