Hand Blender Alert!
Update March 19, 2007: It's back! I'm beginning to think they put this on sale every Monday! For those of you who were disappointed when the price went up on the KitchenAid Hand Blender I recommend, a reader just wrote to tell me it's down to $24.99, after a $5.00 rebate. The price tends to go up and down often, so act now to be sure you get it at this price! They probably have only 3 or 4 at this price.
I use mine all the time. Want proof? Just search this blog for mentions of "hand blender."

Thanks for the tip! I have been thinking about getting one, and I think this is a sign...I'm going to order it now! I am excited!!

Oops! I just got one today from someone on Craigslist for $35. Oh well, it was still a great price (new in box) and I don't have to wait for it to be shipped! Thanks for updating us, though!
I'm so glad to have it. No more leftover soup going to waste because I didn't want to do so many blender batches and then didn't get around to blending the leftover to eat them.
I adore mine too! I've used about 4 different hand blenders over the years, and just got the KitchenAid for Christmas. It was my favourite gift, by far!
Thanks so much! I've wanted to get one since reading both your blog and "Real Food Daily" cookbook, and now I can afford it! (Or can't afford not too!)
Thanks!

I followed the link and it's showing that, with the rebate, it's $42.99 rather than $24.99.
:(
but i think it's high time i got one regardless.
Grrrr. I hate that! I think what happens is they have a certain number at the low price and then after I announce it, some people buy them and the price goes up. If you're willing to wait, I'm sure the price will go down again. In fact, I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy a couple to give as presents. But then, I wouldn't want to cause the price to go up!
When I bought mine, I thought I got a great deal at $69.99. I'm glad I bought it when I did because I've gotten a couple years use out of it, but I would have loved to get it for less.
These are great; they completely save the mess of putting your cooking into a full blender. Thanks for the tip.
Btw, great blog!

So the KitchenAid one is definitely the best? I ask because I got a hand blender a while ago(can't remember the brand) and it was awful--it actually took more time to blend soup because you basically had to isolate each chunk and go at it individually. I gave up on hand blenders as a result, but now I'm wondering if I was too hasty.
SCS, it's the best one that I've ever owned. I went through at least 2 before this, but neither of them worked this well. Plus, they were harder to clean (didn't go in dishwasher) and stopped working after a year or so. I've had my KitchenAid for more than 2 years, and I've been totally satisfied. The motor is strong enough to pull the food into the blades. And it has nine speeds, so you can always find the right speed for the task.
I have the Kitchenaid immersion blender and food processor. Love their products!
I'm on my second hand mixer. I use it for mixing soy milk from powder. I blend it right in the container I mix it in.
ooh, will go nicely in my newly remodeled kitchen!
