Calling All BlogHers...and BlogHims!
Maybe you've noticed the "I'm Speaking" button in my sidebar and have wondered what that's all about. I'm very honored to have been asked to take part in the Art of Foodblogging Panel at the BlogHer Conference coming up in a couple of weeks in Chicago. It's a great opportunity for me to get to meet in person several of the food bloggers I've come to admire and to talk about the passion that we all share: Food--cooking it, eating it, writing about it, and photographing it.But you can be there, too! If you're at all interested in connecting with other bloggers, hearing great speakers (such as Elizabeth Edwards and Amy Sedaris), polishing your blogging skills, or promoting your blog, you'll find all that and more at the BlogHer Conference, July 27-29. Or, if you're just interested in food blogging, you can opt to register for only Saturday, July 28, and not only take part in the panel discussion but also get photography tips from the wonderfully talented food photographers Bea of La Tartine Gourmande and Lara of Cook and Eat and Still Life With....
Kalyn of Kalyn's Kitchen has written up a great summary of what's cookin' at the conference, and she's also keeping a list of all the food bloggers who'll be attending, so if you can be there, be sure to let her know. There are also plans for a food blogger restaurant outing, probably on that Friday night, and though I'm pretty sure it won't be in a vegetarian restaurant, I plan to go and see what vegan goodies the chef can whip up. I'd love to see you, so please let me know in the comments if you can be there.
D. and E. will be joining me for part of the conference, and we'll be doing a little sight-seeing and also checking out some vegetarian restaurants. I already have my heart set on going to Chicago Diner and Karyn's Cooked, but if you have any other suggestions, I'd love to hear 'em.
Hope to see you there!

You should really check out Green Zebra if you can afford to spend some cash. I haven't been to Chicago, so I've never had a chance to check it out, but it's top on my list.
Susan, I'm really looking forward to meeting you and the others on the panel that I haven't met! I think the whole conference is going to be just wonderful.
I did tell Terry from Blue Kitchen that he needed to find a restaurant that would have vegan options, so we'll see what he comes up with. Also my brother was a vegetarian when he lived in Chicago and he used to take me to a place called Blind Faith that was just amazing if it's still there.
No other suggestions, but I will highly endorse Karyns Cooked. We went there in April and it was wonderful! (We aren't vegetarian, just choose to eat that way occasionally. :)
Enjoy your trip!
Maureen
I can't wait to hear how you liked Karyns Cooked & Chicago Diner. I am hoping to get over there soon & try all the Vegan Restaurants in Chicago.
I didn't realize the conference was in Chicago... thats very close to me. :)
Oops... forgot some suggestions. I have never been to any of these restaurants but try....

I have had food from http://www.aryabhavan.com/ and it was good.
Alice & Friends is a really interesting Vegan/Veggie choice: http://metromix.chicagotribune.com/dining/43412,0,7704707.venue
Hi! I go to the University of Chicago and, while not low fat in the slightest, there is a place in the southside called Soul Veg that has delicious food. Best vegan mac and cheese in the world and simply a really interesting place (all soul food and run by the African Hebrew Israelites). It's a bit hard to get to (not in the prettiest neighborhood and just a little south of downtown) but it's definitely worth it. Karyn's and Chicago Diner and pretty great though. And there's a bakery called Bleeding Heart that is definitely worth trying out (it's not vegan-but it's organic and often has amazing vegan quiche and baked goods--call before you go.) Enjoy!
Yes, if you can splurge, Green Zebra is a fabulous experience! It's chic and almost entirely vegetarian. Chicago Diner is a lot of fun, too, and is located in the lively Lakeview neighborhood.
If for some reason you find yourself on the Northwest Side, Amitabul is awesome: It's a Korean fat-free vegan kitchen! The decor won't win any awards, frankly, but the food is fresh, affordable and out of this world. Oh, how I miss it!
Many Chicago restaurants are pretty vegan savvy, especially if you call ahead. One of the best vegan meals I've ever had was at Rick Bayless' Frontera Grill.
My husband and I moved away about a year ago. We do miss the food -- but we don't miss the prices! :P
Have a fun trip!!
What an honor! Have a great time. I would love to visit if I lived closer, but San Diego is a long ways away. I will be awaiting your post when you get back. Enjoy trying out all the Vegan restaurants!
I just had the most amazing seitan jerk sandwich at Earwax Cafe in Wicker Park last night!
Lucky! I unfortunately won't be able to attend, but please take lots of photos and fill us in when you get back! And of course, have a super time.
Hi, Here's my (mostly real estate) blog with an entry about my trip to Chicago. (My husband and I are vegan, too.) http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=151843262&blogID=266045911
Sorry there aren't any food pics. I hope the link works. Otherwise type in myspace.com/realtordominique and look for the blog called Chicago Vacation Highlights. Have fun!!!

If you want to try Indian fare, then there are numerous vegetarian restaurants in Devon avenue, in chicago. http://www.udupipalace.com is a popular vegetarian eatery. Usually the concept of veganisim is not popular in Indian restaurants, So, you should ask many question...
And you can never get a vegan dessert in an indian eatery...

You must go to Green Zebra!!! It's wonderful.
Hi there!
I ate the most delicious bean burrito in Chicago - but, of course I can't recall the name of the restaurant. BUT...I did want to suggest that you check out the main branch of the chicago library - it is stunning.
Have a great time.
Aw, I miss Chicago. Here's a list of places I enjoyed when I lived there:

All the places that other commentors have mentioned are great. Dharma Garden is one I'd recommend, too!
